THE BRIEF

Alif is revolutionizing our traditional concept of bookstores. It’s a unique combination; a place in a prime location where you can shop, read, and relax, a central hub for our products, customers, and team members alike. Alif is an experience that offers reading rooms for adults and children, a modern café, and creativity rooms for carrying out scientific and fun experiments. With this huge potential, Motif gave Alif the attention it needed.

Brand Identity

We worked very closely with Alif and through workshops and extensive market research, we created their brand story and their core values.

Working on reflecting Alif’s core values we created the brand identity from scratch. Starting with the logo and the brand’s colors to designing the packaging. Our goal was to showcase the modern look and feel of the brand. Using Arabic calligraphy we showed our Arab culture. However, instead of using traditional Arabic font, we designed a bilingual wordmark logo to challenge the traditional image of a bookstore in our culture and to add a modern vibe.

DIGITAL EXPERIENCE

Online shopping can be frustrating and time-consuming. Our team wanted to change it and
worked together with Alif to create a world-class online shopping experience in the Qatar market.

We worked on the comprehensive design of Alif’s digital ecosystem that would make online shopping in Qatar easy, quick, and engaging, including the website and native mobile applications design.

SEAMLESS WEB UX

Alif doesn’t only offer a big variety of products for individual shoppers, it also offers discounts to corporates on their needed supplies, with multiple users for each company to facilitate ordering their needs.

We started with competitors and market research to determine our target audience and their needs and behaviors, shaping and iterating the information architecture and website flows.

IDEATION & PROTOTYPE

We designed the web experience across the idea of easy and hassle-free shopping with smooth transitions between then individual and corporate versions.

We built and tested the wireframes, and from there we moved to design the website. Wireframes allowed us rapid experimentation with solution ideas prior to development effort.

E-COMMERCE WEBSITE

The website design is based on the look and feel of the brand. We chose Magento as the eCommerce platform, but we had to make a lot of customizations, mainly to accommodate the multiple versions for corporates and individuals, and more importantly to enhance the shopping and checkout experience.

Mobile responsive

More and more consumers are making purchases from mobile devices. We ensure our website is always responsive across wide range of modern devices.

Mobile users not only have different views, but they have different behaviors. We addressed this with the mobile optimizations done specifically for the mobile/tablet views of the website.

NATIVE UX ON MOBILE

In our modern days, most of Alif’s target audience prefer browsing and purchasing through their mobile phones, and that’s why we also developed native iOS and Android apps for the store.

Informed by extensive market & user research we framed the structure of the mobile application in order to ensure the best experience for the Alif shoppers on mobile devices.

E-COMMERCE APPLICATION

Notifications, personal recommendations are some of the features we included in the app. Our goal was to create a clean, fast, and easy to use app that carries the user through a smooth shopping experience and an easy checkout, and through that, boost Alif’s sales.

ESPECIAL ON MOBILE

3-step onboarding, tutorial, barcode scanner, apple wallet card are some of the special features we included for the mobile application.

At the same time, enhanced with the user-friendly in-app navigation and additional possibilities, such as comparison, in-depth search and sticky navigation the app carries the user through a smooth shopping experience and an easy checkout, and through that, boost Alif’s sales.

Outcome

The final Alif Stores ecosystem brings a quick, easy, and painless experience to the offline and online shoppers in Qatar. Beyond our initial engagement, we’ve continued working with the Alif team and their development partners to design and implement more new features and improvements for the website and application.
